            Brenda’s Philosophy:
I was raised with ponies, and some will say that ponies are very bully and bossy.  But one thing is for sure, my ponies taught me how to ride!  (And I will have a pony for the future grandkids!)

I  learned to work with the horse, not against the horse. But I had had no formal lessons or training.  So when Sara started riding lessons at 6 years of age, I was there listening, learning, and taking some lessons beside her.  And what I learned, I teach:  correct posture, a balanced seat, using the legs with the hands - together.  As we started training our own horses, I learned that it is better to stay soft with the hands instead of pulling, firmness instead of jerks, leg pressure instead of spurs,  kindness instead of meanness, asking instead of telling!

I use the John Lyons, Pat Parelli, Monty Roberts, Ray Hunt, etc. theories of working with the horse, bonding with the horse, becoming the “Alpha” mare, and expecting respect!  Most important of all, I do what I need to do to keep myself safe, my/your horse safe, and you, as the rider or handler, safe!

“God gave us these beautiful, strong -willed animals to enjoy.  Treat yours with kindness and patience!  Step back and do something easier when the way gets tough.  Teach, let your horse learn!  Have a great ride.”
