Messick Quarter Horses at Pine Ridge Acres, LLC, is owned by Brenda and Tom Messick of Ceresco, Nebraska.  Located 12 miles north of Lincoln and 30 miles southwest of Omaha, Messick Quarter Horses offer Breeding, Riding Lessons, Training, Boarding, and Equine Sports Massage, as well as selling Drynest Shavings and Nutrena Feeds.  Lessons, for beginners to advanced riders, and training for all breeds, are offered in Western Pleasure and Horsemanship, Hunter Under Saddle(English) and Equitation, Showmanship, Trail,  and Barrels and Poles.  The EquiRiders 4-H group is also lead and coached by Brenda.

Messick Quarter Horses is a family operation.  Brenda and Tom have three children: Sara, who is studying Equine Science at Colorado State University at Fort Collins, Colorado, Jacob, who is studying sports marketing at UNL, Lincoln, and Micah, who is in high school.  Click here to read about their show ring accomplishments.  Brenda works with the young horses in the round pen, free lunging, ground driving, lunging with a saddle, and giving them a good basic foundation under saddle.  Brenda also tunes on horse for multi-purposes; from the trail-riding horse to the Western Pleasure and Hunter Under Saddle show horse.  Jacob and Micah handle the foals and teach them to lead, and lunge the yearlings and 2 year olds. Sara helps to start the 2 year olds and continues to ride some of the older horses, even while she is away at college.  Tom works a full time job, but finds time to help with the horses, stacking hay, at shows, and repairs.

“Grand Duke Of Asset”, the Messicks’ 1997 16.1 hand bay stallion was bred and raised at Messick Quarter Horses.  He was started in Western Pleasure and Hunter Under Saddle with Brenda.  Earning Hunter Under Saddle Points in Open, and Amateur Hunter Under Saddle Points with Sara, “Duke” is producing babies that are leggy, long muscled, deep hocked, and with gentle dispositions, that can go either Western or Hunter.  Look for Duke’s offspring in the show pen, lunging and riding, in 4-H and open shows, or on the trails.

Brenda coaches youth at Quarter Horse Shows, and shows Junior Horses in Western Pleasure and Hunter Under Saddle. All 3 children have been to the AQHYA Youth World Show in Ft. Worth, Texas.  Sara has shown at the 1999 World Show with Rainbow Bar Misty, “Misty” in Aged Mares and with Zips Jr Mint, “JR” in Hunt Seat Equitation, and with “JR” at the 2000 AQHYA World Show in Showmanship. Sara showed Call Me Topper, “Oscar“, in Hunter Under Saddle at the 2001 World Show.  Jacob has shown at the World Show in 2001 and 2002 with Ima Toll Free Leo, “Bubba“, in Pole Bending and Stake Race.  In 2002 Jacob made finals and finished 11th in the nation with Bubba.  Micah was at the 2002 World Show with Red Hot N Fancy, “Riley“, in 2 year old geldings, and with Te Misty Glo, “Misty“, in Pole Bending and Stake Race.

Brenda and Tom met while at college at Pennsylvania State University in 1979, where they both studied Animal Production.  Married in 1981, they moved from New Jersey, to the Pittsburgh, PA area, then to Detroit, Michigan, and finally to the Lincoln, Nebraska area in 1986.  They settled at their present location near Ceresco, NE in 1992.  Brenda earned her Veterinary Technician Degree at Macomb Community College, Michigan, in 1986, and she received a B.S. Degree from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, in Agri-Business, in 1992.
